Resident Evil Village Gets Major Story Trailer

By Stephen NovakSeptember 16, 2020

Resident Evil Village has gotten a new major trailer that includes a ton of new story details.

While many were disappointed that the “August 2020” tease at the end of the last trailer didn’t end up paying off with more news, fans finally received their next trailer during the PlayStation 5 reveal event.

The trailer shows that the one that brings protagonist Ethan Winters to the titular village, is in fact long-time running series hero Chris Redfield. Not that it seems Ethan went willingly. The snowy town seems filled with enough freaky people as is.

A large portion of the trailer is dedicated to the retelling of an old folk tale, where a girl tries to find berries while her father is at work but she runs off into the woods and loses her mother. While it could just be set dressing, this story is told by Ethan’s wife Mia Winters, suggesting she knows more than she lets on.

Alongside the story, we also got a good look at the new werewolf-like enemies that were introduced in the last trailer. While the animation is brief, one can see a man transform from his hollow villager self into a beast that throws Ethan through a wall. These enemies seem to be very prevalent as they litter most gameplay segments.

Most perplexingly is the man at the end, who tells Ethan to “window shop away”. Likely implying the return of a merchant style character, allowing the player to buy weapon upgrades or supplies. This could tip the balance of the game away from Resident Evil’s tense resource management fear fest to a more openly action based entry.

It could also beg the question if this game will get any relation to Resident Evil: Resistance. The multiplayer component that comes with a copy of the Resident Evil 3 Remake, a game that has long since lost its roadmap, leaving its players in the dark as to when more content will be coming.
