Gameplay revealed for Immortals Fenyx Rising, formerly known as Gods & Monsters

By Poch SaldanaSeptember 10, 2020
Immortal Fenyx Rising

A litany of reveals came out today courtesy of Ubisoft’s Nintendo Direct-esque Ubisoft Forward. One of the more intriguing titles shown off was of Immortals Fenyx Rising. Aside from the name being a mishmash of generic gaming words, the title looks be to take inspiration from another Nintendo product evoking some striking similarities to the wildly loved Breath of the Wild.

Teased last year as God & Monsters—and oh how I wish it retained that title—Immortals Fenyx Rising is another open-world adventure by the open-world savants themselves. Instead of sticking to their tried-and-true formula of base camps galore, though, the Greek epic is giving its own spin on the open-world style of game introduced by the latest mainline Zelda release. So far as to even have its own version of shrines it seems.

Taking inspiration from one of the most renowned titles of the last few years is definitely not a bad idea but Immortals Fenyx: Rising looks to carve its own identity as well. Flashy, over-the-top combat, the setting based on Greek mythology, and emphasis on comedic writing gives the game some unique qualities to distinguish itself from Breath of the Wild and even other open-world titles.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is set to release on December 3 for pretty much all platforms which include the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PC, and Stadia. Stadia users will also get a free, exclusive demo before the game’s launch.

Big fan of games, writing, and writing about games! Two things Poch will always stand by--the Vita was ahead of its time and the world is a better place with a new Rhythm Heaven on the horizon.
