Attack on Titan Final Season Air Date Confirmed

By Josh PiedraSeptember 24, 2020
Attack on Titan

If you’ve paid attention to the internet over the past couple of days, you would have seen that NHK leaked the air date for Attack on Titan’s final season. We took it with a grain of salt at first; however, Crunchyroll confirmed today that the air date is, indeed, December 7!

Whether it was due to COVID-19 or other reasons, many see this as an odd release date for the series. Usually, a television anime series will begin airing in January, April, July, or October. While it is not outside of the realm of possibility for a tv anime to start at an unconventional point in the season, it does happen and it seems as if this is one of those rare cases.

Since the series is starting so late, one must wonder how many episodes the final season will be and/or if they plan on splitting the final season in half much like they did with Attack on Titan’s third season. Seeing how this is being touted as the conclusion to Hajime Isayama’s story, don’t be surprised if the show ends up getting its final season split with the second half concluding simultaneously with Isayama’s manga.

It wouldn’t be the first time an anime ended at the same time as a manga while keeping the manga’s ending intact. 2016’s Boke Dake ga Inai Machi (ERASED) aired while the manga was ongoing and ended with its final episode airing at the same time that the final chapter was published. Isayama is winding down the manga as we speak so it would make sense for the final season to end in the same manner… although that is just speculation on our part.

In any event, gear up for December 7 as Attack on Titan returns once again!
