Recent Xbox tweet throws jabs at the PlayStation 5, touts huge backlog of backward compatible games

By Keith MitchellMay 28, 2020

Not one to be on the defensive, it looks like Microsoft and Xbox are looking to take the fight to Sony and PlayStation. Earlier today, the company released a nice write-up that talked about how the Xbox Series X will have thousands of games readily available to play when it launches. All thanks to both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One catalog, all of which will be playable via backward compatibility. A feature that Xbox has been promoting for a while, especially with the Xbox One X. If you’ve been involved with the Xbox ecosystem since the Xbox 360, chances are you have a large backlog of games, something of which Xbox is counting on.

Now they’ve released a new ad that puts that fact front and center, along with a subtle jab at PlayStation. Let’s see if you can spot that.

Xbox Series X is the most compatible console ever.

Yep, both the “Noo Boost Mode” and “No Downclock” are direct jabs against the upcoming PlayStation 5. Both of which are referring to the PS5’s boost mode and the variable CPU clock frequencies. This is interesting as many developers have gone on to claim that the PS5 is a bit more powerful than the Xbox Series X. With this tweet, it would seem that Xbox is claiming that it doesn’t appear to be the case. I’m not sure this is a good idea on Xbox’s part, especially if this doesn’t turn out to be true. I’m guessing we’re about to learn a bit more about the Xbox Series X in the upcoming months, if not weeks.

I say this as Microsoft has already stated that we’ll see more of its first-party offering in July 2020. First-party games that will ultimately (hopefully) show off the power of the Xbox Series X. Of course, we have several gaming events planned for June 2020, several of which Microsoft is involved in. We just may get an earlier look at the Xbox Series X as well.

That said, I don’t like to feed into the “Console Wars” as I feel it’s stupid,  but is where we are. One thing is for sure, we the gamers are about to see some fireworks very soon.
