PlayStation Studios branding reveal, PlayStation 5 not releasing this October 2020

By Keith MitchellMay 12, 2020

Similar to what  Xbox Studios has done in the past, PlayStation has revealed a new logo for its PlayStation Studios, along with a new opening animation.  According to PlayStation, this new animation will be seen with its first-party PlayStation 5 titles. So don’t expect to see this opening on the next big PlayStation 4 titles, such as The Last of Us Part II and Ghosts of Tsushima.

When I first watched the reveal of the new animation, I immediately thought of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) opening, as this new opening is very similar. The epic music being played, as the logo slowly reveals several PlayStation properties being show, finally with the actual logo embracing the screen.

Ironically enough, the new logo is similar to the Xbox Studios’ new logo.

I’m many of us are familiar with the studios that exist under the PlayStation umbrella, but for the sake of conversation we’ll run down all of those.

  • Naughty Dog
  • Polyphony Digital
  • Insomniac Games
  • Media Molecule
  • Santa Monica Studio
  • Sucker Punch
  • Project Siren (Team Gravity)
  • ASOBI Team
  • Bend Studio
  • Guerrilla Games
  • London Studio

Ok, let’s be real for a second. While it’s nice to see the new logo and animation, we’re still waiting for PlayStation to show off the PlayStation 5. Sure, we’ve seen the DualSense controller and while I agree it is a sexy piece of tech, it’s not what we want to see. Why is this so hard? Why is PlayStation still holding back showing off the console? That’s a good question and currently only Sony can answer that question.

That said, I wonder what we’ll see next from PlayStation, well, other than the console. Oh, as for the rumor of the PlayStation 5 being released in October, PlayStation just shot that down as well.
