State of Decay 2 is heading to the Epic Games Store

By Keith MitchellMarch 6, 2020

Now, this is what I’m talking about; options and choices!  The State of Decay 2 has announced that the updated version of the game, State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition, is now headed to the Epic Games Store when it is released. Meaning that gamers will have even more options on where to pick up and play the game. This includes the Xbox One and PC via Steam, Windows Store, Xbox Games Pass, and now Epic Games Store.

What’s more, is there will be cross-platform play across all of the platforms! Which great news for fans of the game and should ensure that more players will be diving in into a game that has been slowly been improved.

The full announcement and FAQ is below:

“Hello Survivors, today we are announcing a new way for you to play State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition! We at Undead Labs are proud to launch Juggernaut Edition on the Epic Games Store next Friday March 13 for $29.99, expanding your choice of how and where to survive the zombie apocalypse. You can pre-purchase State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition on the Epic Games Store beginning today.

Players will now have the option to play Juggernaut Edition on these platforms: Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Windows 10, Steam, and now the Epic Games Store. Cross-network play will be available across all platforms.

Q: I’m an existing owner, but I want to play on the Epic platform. Will my saves transfer?
A: Your achievements, outfits, unlocked bounties, boons, and other account progress will be transferred to all platforms, however your existing communities will remain on their current platform.

Q: I already own State of Decay 2. Will I have to re-purchase if I want to own the game on the Epic Games Store?
A: If you also wish to own the game through the Epic Games Store, you will need to purchase it again there.

Q: I want to play multiplayer with someone on a different platform. How does that work?
A: All versions of the game use Xbox Live to provide a cross-platform multiplayer experience regardless of store choice.

Q: When is this available?
A: State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition arrives Friday the 13th (March 13) on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Windows 10, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Pre-purchase is available today.”

As for the updated version of the game, you can expected overhauled graphics, a new map, new heavy weapons, as well as mission updates and bug fixes. Juggernaut Edition also includes all three DLC add-on packs that were previously released; Independence Pack, Daybreak Pack, and State of Decay 2: Heartland. This is going to be the definitive version of State of Decay 2.

That said, I don’t know how many people will opt to purchase the game on the Epic Games Store and frankly, it doesn’t matter. Just the fact that Microsoft is pushing their games on other digital storefronts is enough for me. Now, if they’d release their entire Xbox Studio gaming catalog onto Steam and the Epic Games Store. There are still a few games missing, such as Forza Horizon 4.
