Echo is the next character heading to Overwatch

Overwatch Echo Origin 1280x720

Today, Blizzard Entertainment announced the next Overwatch character, Echo, a robot that possesses extraordinary artificial intelligence.

A new trailer debuted alongside this announcement, which gives us some backstory on the character, but also we now know the name of the person who helped created the Omnics; Doctor Liao. During this trailer, we’re not only introduced to Echo, but we presented bits and pieces of her origin. All while a distressed Doctor Liao can be seen in the background, clearly caught in some sort of mishap. With Echo being seen in the background. Finally, we can hear Echo speaking on how Doctor Liao only wanted to do to help the world, and thus created Echo. As part of her legacy, her Echo.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Echo, either. She was featured in the Overwatch short “Reunion”, which debuted back in November 2018. In which we can see that Echo has some ties with McCree, and refers to him as Jessie. I’d love to know the backstory here, as they have some history. She even remarks on what happened to this left hand.

As far as her abilities are, we’ll have to wait until Blizzard releases more information. However, with the addition of Echo, this bumps up the Overwatch roster to 32 playable characters.

Overwatch is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
