Nintendo releasing more SNES and NES games to Switch, including Star Fox 2

Wasn’t Star Fox 2 a SNES Classic exclusive?

It’s been a while since Nintendo released a Super NES game for Nintendo Switch Online. That’s all going to change as the company has announced that they’re releasing several SNES and NES games on December 12, 2019.

On the Super NES front, we’ll see fan favorites Kirby Super Star, Breath of Fire II, Super Punch-Out and the once exclusive SNES Classic Star Fox 2. The NES line-up is also pretty sweet with two favorites of mine, Journey to Silius and Crystalis.  If you haven’t heard the soundtrack for Journey to Silius, you’re missing out.

With the addition to these four SNES games, this will bring the current offering to 24 games:

  • Brawl Brothers
  • Breath Of Fire
  • Breath of Fire II
  • Demon’s Crest
  • F-Zero
  • Joe And Mac 2: Lost In The Tropics
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • Kirby’s Dream Land 3
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Pilotwings
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Stunt Race FX
  • Super EDF: Earth Defense Force
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out
  • Super Puyo Puyo 2
  • Super Soccer
  • Super Tennis
  • The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past

Keep in mind the only way to get these games is by signing up for a Nintendo Switch Online account. You can pick up a one month, three month or annual subscription (best value at $19.99) here. Or if you have multiple Nintendo fans, there’s the family subscription that allows up to 8 people for $34.99. There’s also a 7-day trial if you just want to give it a try.

It’s been a few months since Nintendo gave up on providing SNES games every month. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait another three months before they release more to the service. There’s still a bunch of games that need a re-release.
