Checking out Nvidia’s RTX Broadcast Engine in action at TwitchCon 2019

While TwitchCon 2019 is underway, it seems there’s some interesting tech stuff going on at the event.

According to SombreroGG’s Twitter account, Nvidia and OBS have shown off some new tech. This also will streamers to use a webcam and removes the need for a green screen. While XSplit already has something similar to this called VCam, as does Logitech’s c922 webcam. However, what Nvidia has shown at TwitchCon looks to one-up both of those.

SombreroGG posted a video of this in action and it looked as if a green screen was used, even though it wasn’t. It looked smooth, there weren’t any issues with the person in the webcam being seen either.

Check it out in action below.

For those wondering, this is Nvidia’s RTX broadcast Engine in action. This was announced earlier this week at the start of TwitchCon 2019. This new tech uses AI to create virtual real-time green screens, removing the need to own a physical green screen.  The downside is that this is exclusive to Nvidia RTX cards as it makes use of the Tensor cores. Which also means that the CPU won’t be impacted as the GPU handles all the heavy lifting.  I was already interested after Nvidia announced this, but seeing it in action is very impressive.

Even still, judging from what we’re seeing from TwitchCon, owners of these cards are going to be in for a surprise once this becomes readily available. That said, I can’t wait to check it out for my self. Hopefully, OBS puts out either a beta or updated version in the near future.
