Checking out the Playnite 5.5 Update and it’s damned good

By Keith MitchellAugust 6, 2019
Playnite 5.5

I’ve talked about Playnite in the past, however, this time we’re taking a look at the updated version (5.5) of the application.

A new user interface has been added and can be customized in several ways. While this new version functions a bit more like Steam’s Big Picture mode and allows you to either restart or put your PC to sleep. Another huge change is that the Playnite can now properly pull the meta-data from a larger variety of storefront launchers. Meaning that it can even pull how long a certain game has been played.\

The performance has also been improved. There’s even an option to change the default Xbox controller buttons to display as Dualshock controller icons now. Of course, we go over all these changes and more in this latest video.

As you can imagine, I’m still amazed at what the developer of Playnite, Josef Nemec, has accomplished yet again. Not only is this a passion project, but each update adds more functionality in a free program. It’s easily one library managers I’ve used.

PC gamers are no stranger to having multiple launchers to play games on the platform. From Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Bethesda, and several others. It’s a pain at times to just open a game and play. Thankfully there’s Playnite, a library manager that allows you to connect any number of launchers into one centralized location.

Playnite is currently available to download for free at https://playnite.link and can be installed on Windows 7/8.1/10.
