Japanese Band Kalafina Announces Breakup

It was announced via their official website that the Japanese girl band group Kalafina would be officially breaking up. Anime fans saw this as an inevitability when the group’s producer and famed anime music composer, Yuki Kajiura, along with two of Kalafina’s members left their agency. Since then, the band has ceased any and all activity.

Kalafina spent ten years together and released 21 singles and 6 full albums during their tenure. They provided openings and endings for various anime including Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Black Butler, Fate/Zero, Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works, Arslan Senki, Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu, and many others.

The agency did investigate any and all avenues to relaunch the singing group but was unable to find a solution that would work for all members involved. This is when they decided to announce the breakup of the group to the public.

Keiki left the group last year on April 1 while Hikaru followed suit on October 20, leaving Wakana as the only member of the band remaining with the agency. Yuki Kajiura had left the agency in February of last year.
