Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Lands Top 3 in Steam’s Top Selling List

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieJanuary 10, 2019

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition doesn’t make its debut on Steam until 6 pm EST later today. That hasn’t stopped the re-release of the title from cracking the top selling games list on Steam.

The re-release of the previously Japanese-exclusive PlayStation 3 version of Tales of Vesperia has landed in the third spot on Steam’s Top Selling list as of 7 am EST on January 10th. While there are no numbers in terms of actual units pre-ordered available, this is an impressive feat for a title that released over a decade ago as an Xbox 360 exclusive in North America, Europe and Australia. It is to note that Vesperia holds the major distinction of the first and only game in the Tales series to release on a Microsoft console, as the Tales Series proper mostly saw appearances on Nintendo and Sony platforms, as well as Steam. Among the two versions of the game on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game sold a combined 1,028,534 copies across all regions as of September 2011. Tales of Vesperia was also the first game in the series to feature fully voiced cut scenes and skits.

Tales of Vesperia follows the story of Yuri Lowell, a former Imperial Knight, and his guild, Brave Vesperia, as they fight against the corruption that is taken hold within the Empire. The Definitive Edition expands this story by adding Imperial Knight and close friend of Yuri’s, Flynn Scifo, as well as the young pirate Patty Fleur, as playable characters. The upcoming re-release features new music tracks, new bosses, new mini games, unreleased costume DLC, and updated full HD graphics.

As for specifications, the Steam version of the game can achieve 4K60 (2160p60) resolution, while the Xbox One and Switch versions will run at 30 fps during battle and 60 fps in the overworld. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One X versions will maintain 60 fps across the board. The minimum specifications for the Steam version are as follows:

  • CPU: Core i5-750, ~2.7GHz / AMD X6 FX-6350 3,9GHz AM3
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 660 2GB / Radeon HD 7950 3GB

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition releases later this evening (January 10) on Steam, and goes live on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on Friday, January 11.
