Square Enix Teasing New Octopath Traveler and IP?

By Todd BlackDecember 20, 2018
Project Octopath Traveler Octopath Traveler Review Nintendo Switch

When it comes to the Nintendo Switch, you think about the 1st party lineup first obviously, but the 3rd party lineup is just as good when you realize just how many titles Nintendo got from various developers. Square Enix has been one of the biggest supporters of them, including bringing in the Acquire team (the developers behind Bravely Default) to make a new IP exclusive to the Switch called Octopath Traveler.

The game was a big hit on the system, and the team want to do more for the Switch. And now, via an interview with Famitsu, they’re teasing that, and more. Check out what two of the dev team said:

Tomoya Asano: “In 2019 we’ll have a challenge that is different from what we’ve had up to now with Octopath Traveler and the Bravely series. I’ll do my best! Business Division 11 is moving forward with the development of several games. Each one will surely please you guys! It will still be a little while until we can share information, but please look forward to it.”

Masashi Takahashi: “We received support from so many people in 2018, and we were able to release a brand-new title, Octopath Traveler. I’ll keep working on console games in 2019, too! First, we’ll properly reflect on ourselves before heading into the next season of preparations. I’ll do my utmost best to make games you can look forward to – from the Octopath series, the Bravely series, a new series, and more.

So it seems that there’s not just more Octopath coming, and many even Bravely Default 3, but a new RPG franchise that is likely to come to the Switch. Very exciting. Be sure to check out our review of Octopath Traveler if you haven’t played it yet!
