Nintendo Is Dominating Software Sales In 2018

Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 Joy-Cons - The Outerhaven

Nintendo is in a very interesting place right now in terms of sales of both consoles and software. While the PS4 is the best-selling hardware at present for 2018, the Switch is not far behind. What’s more, The Big N is set to dominate the holiday season as they have both Pokemon Let’s Go and Super Smash Bros Ultimate set to release within the next six weeks.

But, according to recent NPD results, Nintendo is currently leading the rankings when it comes to software sales. Check it out:

Next comes Nintendo, and why there weren’t callouts in the notes… Nintendo is the best-selling publisher of the year when it comes to SW, despite The NPD Group not having permission to report on its digital sales. It just so happened that other new releases took the spotlight.

When you think about it, this is a bit of a surprise. For Sony has been dominating first party sales with God of War and Spider-Man, as well as having big 3rd party games like Monster Hunter World and Dragon Ball FighterZ. So how is the Big N on top with software?

Well, they have had their own big titles like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Octopath Traveler, Kirby Star Allies, and a few others. Plus, there’s the indie game factor, as Nintendo is most definitely dominating in that respect.

And then when Pokemon and Smash Bros comes out, that gap will be made all the bigger no doubt.
