Super Smash Bros Ultimate To Have “Restraint” On Character Reveals Now

By Todd BlackSeptember 26, 2018
Super Smash Bros Ultimate

For anyone who is a fan of Super Smash Bros, whether hardcore or casual, you know that one of the biggest things about the game is the character reveals. After all, every game in the series bring in new fighters, and that adds new flavors, new potential, new moves, new strategies, and more. And with Super Smash Bros Ultimate, that’s no different, as we’ve had many character reveals since it was officially debuted at E3 2018.

Since its naming as Super Smash Bros Ultimate, we’ve gotten Ridley, Simon Belmont, Richtor Belmont, Chrom, Dark Samus, King K. Rool, Daisy, and most recently, Isabelle from Animal Crossing. Add that to Inkling from Splatoon (who was revealed in the teaser for the game), and that’s nine new characters revealed over the course of a couple months. However, Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai has stated that this is ending, for in a recent column in Famitsu he noted this:

… However, it’d be incorrect to say that we’re going to keep releasing information on new fighters until the game’s release. Up until now we’ve been revealing characters one after another a bit too quickly, so we’re going to show some restraint from this point on!

Granted, that doesn’t mean that the character reveals are going to stop (as in there are no more new characters), but rather, they’re not going to be as frequent. And given we are a little more than two months away from release, that makes sense. The only real question is…how many more characters will be put into Super Smash Bros Ultimate?
