Octopath Traveler Apparently Selling Out In Japan

By Todd BlackJuly 15, 2018
Project Octopath Traveler Octopath Traveler Review Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch is boasting a lot of big 3rd party titles this year. To be fair, many of them are ports or same-day releases, but they’re still important as they’re still selling on the Switch. However, when it comes to 3rd-party exclusives, one of the biggest games to come this year for the Switch is Octopath Traveler, which released this past Friday. Both Nintendo and Square Enix have been doing good on promoting the title, including releasing two demos of the game. And for at least Japan, their efforts are paying off.

On the official PR Twitter feed for Octopath Traveler, the team made a tweet noting that in Japan, the game is apparently selling out. To the extent that they’re requesting that those who haven’t gotten the game try and get the digital version, which obviously won’t run out.

The fact that the game is doing so well in Japan isn’t too much of a surprise. The game is a true testament to the JRPGs of the past, including several of the early Final Fantasy games that Japan helped make popular.

Truly though, it’s going to be interesting to see not only how well the game is selling in Japan, but in the rest of the world. The three hosts of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast have all gotten the game, and previewed it on the latest episode. Stay tuned this Friday to see what their first impressions of the full game is like!
