Netflix Testing New ‘Ultra’ Subscription Tier for 4K HDR Content

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieJuly 9, 2018

Netflix is reportedly testing out a new ‘Ultra’ subscription that would drive the cost of the monthly subscription higher than the $13.99 Netflix Premium option, according to a report from TuttoAndroid.

TuttoAndroid spotted the new plan, which costs €16.99/US$19.80 (and according to how Netflix does its pricing could cost US$16.99.) The Ultra plan offers up to four simultaneous 4K streams at once, which is currently supported on the cheaper Premium tier.

According to Netflix, the testing is in fact real, stating the following to CNET, via The Verge:

We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time. In this case, we are testing slightly different price points and features to better understand how consumers value Netflix.

That same spokesperson stated that “not all Netflix subscribers will see the test and the company may not ever offer the specific price points or features being tested.”
