TNT’s ‘The Alienist’ Brings Viewers to Late-18th Century New York

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieOctober 17, 2017

TNT has officially premiered the date for its period drama, The Alienist. The Daniel Brühl-led drama will premiere on the cable network on Monday, January 22nd, at 9 pm. TNT also unveiled a trailer for the show this past Monday, which you can check out below:

The Alienist is an upcoming American drama television series based on the novel of same name by Caleb Carr. The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896, when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped the city. Newly appointed top cop Teddy Roosevelt calls upon Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl), a criminal psychologist — aka alienist — and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Luke Evans, Beauty and the Beast, The Fate of the Furious) to conduct the investigation in secret. Joining them in the probe is Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning, My Neighbor Totoro, Coraline), a headstrong secretary at Police Headquarters.

Joining Brühl, Fanning, and Evans in the co-production from Paramount Television and Turner are Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Matt Lintz, Robert Ray Wisdom and Q’orianka Kilcher.

The 9 pm slot puts The Alienist against the second hour of WWE’s Monday Night Raw, which happens to be the go-home show before their annual Royal Rumble event. However, with reactions being positive so far for the upcoming series, they should be able to keep up with the historically number one-rated Monday Primetime show.

The Alienist debuts on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 9 pm.
