Destiny 2 PC Not Releasing The Same Time As Consoles?

By Keith MitchellMay 18, 2017
Blizzard Welcomes Destiny

Destiny 2 Cayde-6

While Destiny 2 is slated to be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 8th, the same currently be said for the PC. It’s being reported by several outlets and our resources that the title may be being released during the same time. Sadly, the PC launch date hasn’t even been decided on as yet. This was confirmed by Luke Smith, who just happens to be the Destiny 2 director.

“We’re not committed to a PC date yet, but at Bungie we’re totally committed to making a PC build as great as we can,” Smith said. “Our partnership with Blizzard and being on Battle.net, we want to make sure that this version of the game has the time it needs to bake in the oven so it’s a delicious piece of bread when it comes out.”

Adding to this is that Luke Smith can’t actually comment or commit to when we’ll see the title arrive on the PC. That’s a bit a problem, hear me out with this.

So this may put gamers such as myself in a bit of a situation, especially those with multiple systems. The PlayStation 4 is already ahead of the game by getting access to exclusive content for an undetermined amount of time. That alone can tempt gamers to go with that version, especially since they’ll get access to stuff before both the Xbox One and PC gamers will. While many people would be willing to double dip, it goes it expensive and with little to show for at times.

The positives are that the PC version will provide several unique features, better performance and stuff that graphic whores (like me) get excited about. Tell me that having access to an uncapped framerate, 4K resolution support, adjustable FOV and ultra widescreen support doesn’t sound good? Well, it does at least to me. But is it good enough to make someone wait 3 weeks or more? That’s a good question and one that I don’t have an answer.

Sure, both Activision and Blizzard will be working on the title behind the scenes. While you could question if Activision is willing to put in the work (stop that!) you can be sure that Blizzard typically has the PC gamers best interests in mind. Even as I type this out, I’m seeing more and more people take about their brief, yet exciting hands-on with Destiny 2 on the PC. So far, everyone, who has played it has been blown away, so there’s that. But what if there’s some “shady” stuff going on, like money being exchanged to delay the version so that people don’t get tempted to jump to the PC? As much as I joke, this has happened in the past – I just hope this doesn’t end up being the case.

At this time, we simply don’t know what we’re looking at in terms of the Destiny 2 PC release date.  Dwelling on the issue isn’t really going to help anyone, so all we can do is just wait and see. I just hope that we’re talking days, or weeks and not months in terms of the release date.

How do you feel about the PC version possibly being delayed? We’d love to hear (see) your thoughts in the comments below.
