Assassination Classroom Spinoff Manga Gets Anime

By Josh PiedraNovember 17, 2016
Assassination Classroom

In the 51st issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen JUMP magazine, it was announced that Jou Aoto and Kizuku Watanabe’s Assassination Classroom spinoff manga, Koro-sensei Q! (Koro Sensei’s Quest) will be receiving a television anime.  The spinoff is based off of the Assassination Classroom (Ansatsu Kyoushitsu) manga by Yusei Matsui.  Watanabe and Aoto started the spinoff series in Shueisha’s Saikyou JUMP! magazine in October of 2015. In the manga Koro-sensei is a demon king in a world of swords and sorcery. The first tankobon of the manga was released back on July 4.

An animated short based on the spinoff manga is schedule to start airing in theaters alongside the Ansatsu Kyoushitsu: 365-Nichi no Jikan (Assassination Classroom: The Movie – 365 Days) film when it opens up this upcoming Saturday. The new anime series of Koro Teacher Quest! will serve as a continuation to the anime version that will screen in theaters. Weekly Shonen Jump will reveal new information about the series in future issues.

While the release date has not been revealed, the website for the series listed it has having twelve episodes, running at 10 minutes per episode.

The first 22-episode television anime series based on the Assassination Classroom manga premiered in Japan in January 2015, and the second season premiered in January 2016 and ended in July. The manga ended in Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump in March.

The original manga also inspired two live-action films, the second of which premiered in Japan on March 25.
