Vanilla Ice Reappears with TMNT during Movie Preview

By Karl SmartMay 25, 2016

Guess who’s back!

Rapper Vanilla Ice made a surprise appearance and crashed the Madison Square Garden premiere of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows to debut a new “Ninja Rap.” Thankfully, he had the help of some old-school turtles to bring everyone back to the ’90s.

Ice’s presence at the premiere is a nostalgic nod to his appearance in 1991’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. Fans will remember his infamous “Ninja Rap” sequence from the movie, which ranks as one of the weirdest musical moments/fight scenes in film history. While the original rap boasted pop-infused style, Vanilla Ice’s new song is significantly more modern, with a hard-hitting bass beat and orchestral strings featured throughout. Of course, the new song still features that classic hook — “Go ninja! Go ninja! Go!”

It seems that the new film is looking to touch the nostalgic hearts of the TMNT fanbase as the main plot of the movie involves fan favorite henchmen Bebop & Rocksteady, as well as the 80’s cartoon villain Krang, complete with Android body. TMNT: Out of the Shadows looks to be very fan friendly on the surface, but will it be enough to entice fans to go see it come June? Only time will tell.

Keep checking back to The Outerhaven for more TMNT news, previews, reviews and more over the next couple of weeks as we all gear up to see the next installment in the TMNT franchise.
