Rogue One Trailer Debuts on Good Morning America

By Jason KwasnickiApril 7, 2016

This morning, our first real look at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in action came by way of ABC’s Good Morning America. Hey, I guess they need some way to generate views, and with Disney now in charge of the franchise, this isn’t the last treat ABC will be receiving.

In the trailer, we finally get our first look at Felicity Jones’ character, Jyn Erso, who is a verifiable badass. Quote of the trailer has to be: “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.” People are already taking to the internet to ask how she will fit into the existing panorama of characters, some saying that she could be Rey’s mother. There is also a brief action shot of Donnie Yen’s character, who fans have long speculated will be some sort of Force user. Whatever his background, he looks like he is having a good time beating those Stormtroopers to a pulp with that stick.

Finally, Forest Whitaker has some interesting dialogue narrating the back half of the trailer (well, we know for sure that one of the lines is his-the others could be clever editing). He sounds like he is in pain as he asks, “What will you do when they catch you…what will you do if they break you…if you continue to fight…what will you become?”

Unfortunately, I could not discern any direct shots of Alan Tudyk. Sorry, fellow Firefly fans.

It all looks and sounds very eerie. Indeed, it would seem that Rogue One is ditching the swashbuckling tone of Force Awakens in favor of a darker story. Take a look for yourself below, and here’s to hoping that Gareth Edwards can keep the momentum going that J.J. Abrams established over the holidays.

As of now, Rogue One is looking at a December 16, 2016 release.

Born and raised in the New York area, currently kicking it in Queens, and keeping an ear to the grindstone in this crazy world of internet media hustling. Having attended the George Washington University with a Degree in History, I'm sometimes inclined to use big words unnecessarily. While I typically play a lot of RPGs, I tend to like any game that is fun. My PSN ID is NY-Miller, so hit me up if you ever want to kill some Wizards on the Moon in Destiny.
