Gamestop Gets Serious with Game Publishing

I was only a matter a time before Gamestop decided to ramp up it’s publishing division. While it was announced a while ago that Gamestop would be publishing the upcoming Insomniac title, Song of the Deep, it looks like they’re going on step further now. As reported by MCVUK, the company has now signed several other major AAA studios which includes not only Insomniac Games but also Fronzenbyte, Ready at Dawn and Tequila Works (The Evil Within, Deadlight).

The name of this new publishing division has been named “Gametrust” and they plan on pumping out between 5-10 games every year. In addition, newly formed division is also in talks with 20 other development houses, so expect to see some more news about Gametrust. Gamestop’s focus for Gametrust will be aimed solely at publishing games for both the console and PC platforms, both physically and digitally.

“GameTrust will revolutionize the game development and distribution process by offering a new way for independent developers to create and introduce their own IP to a broad gaming audience and for gamers to discover and enjoy exclusive new video game experiences,”

What do you think about this? Is this the next step for Gamestop, seeing how the gaming landscape is changing?
