Fate/Extra and Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Wheel Get Anime

By Josh PiedraMarch 27, 2016

At the 2016 AnimeJapan event, The Fate Project announced that the popular game Fate/Extra will be receiving an anime adaptation which will air sometime in 2017.   The official title of the anime will be Fate/Extra: Last Encore. Studio Shaft will be handling the animation for Fate/Extra and Type-Moon will be handling the series’ composition. This comes as a surprise since ufotable had been doing an amazing job with the Fate series, but with their upcoming line up, coupled with the delays experienced with God Eater, it’s no wonder that they decided to switch studios for this adaptation.

In addition, the third arc of the Fate/stay night series, Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Wheel, will receive a movie that will be split into three parts. The first film is set to debut sometime in 2017 as well.

Marvelous Entertainment and Type-Moon released the Fate/Extra video game for the Playstation Portable back in 2010 in Japan and Aksys released it in North America in 2011.

The Fate series has received numerous animes as well. Geneon produced Fate/stay night back in 2006 and ufotable adapted the visual novel’s second story route, Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works in 2014. ufotable also produced the prequel series Fate/Zero, which aired in 2012. An OVA which was a compilation digest of the Fate/stay night series, titled Fate/Prototype was released by the studio Lerche in 2011. In addition, a light-hearted spinoff series depicting the characters in school and in chibi form was produced as well. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya has two seasons with a third one on the way in the Spring of 2016.

There have also been NUMEROUS manga adaptations, spinoffs, and crossovers including Fate/stay night, Fate/Apocrypha, Fate/Apocrypha: Unbirth, Fate/Extra, Fate/strange Fake, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, Type-Moon Gakuen: Chibichuki, Himuro no Tenchi Fate/school Life, Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan, Fate/stay night x Magical Girl Lyrical Nonoha, Fate/stay night: Comic Anthology, Fate/stay night: Comic Battle, Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Wheel, and Lord El-Melloi II-sei no Jikenbo,

Phew! I THINK that’s Fate/all of them!
