Just reported that Microsoft has acquired the “Gears of War” IP from Epic Games and has been confirmed by Microsoft Studio’s, Phil Spencer. Phil goes on to state that the deal blankets the the entire property spanning all of the Gears of War games and rights to continue producing games in the franchise’s future. Microsoft has tasked the production of  future Gears of Wars titles over to Vancover-based studio, Black Tusk Studios.

Microsoft has since stated that there wasn’t any projects in production yet Black Tusk Studio’s website says otherwise. In fact if you visit their website (http://www.mgsvancouver.com) you’ll see that they haven’t wasted anytime showcasing that they will be working on an upcoming Gears of War title.

But that’s not all as former Epic Games employee, Rod Fergusson, who was the producer on Gears of Wars 1,2 & 3  over at Epic Games has also joined up with Black Tusk Studios and will lead development on future Gears of War titles for Microsoft’s platforms (Xbox 360 & Xbox One).

For those keeping track, Microsoft now owns the rights to not one but two major FPS titles with this acquisition; Gears of Wars and Halo.
