Hexworks, the developer of the Lords of the Fallen reboot, has revealed that a follow-up to the game is now being worked on. According to the announcement, this unnamed title will be released for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and will be released in 2026.

The reboot was an enjoyable game, and despite the technical issues, I thought Hexwork did a commendable job. Hopefully, the developer learned what worked and what didn’t and applied this knowledge to the upcoming sequel.

That said, there’s still a bit of frustration here as it appears that this sequel will be an Epic Games Store exclusive, and we already know how I feel about that. There’s one thing about having games exclusive to a platform, but doing this on a storefront within a platform does nothing but cause issues. Not to mention, it’s been proven that games that launch just on the Epic Games Store on the PC platform don’t do as well as they wouldn’t if it were also on Steam.

Still, Hexworks stated that more info on the details about the IP ownership, with Epic Games Publishing responsible for the exclusive distribution of the game on PC; further details on this and publishing will be shared in the future.

Either way, I look forward to seeing what Hexworks has in store for this follow-up. And if you haven’t already played Lords of the Fallen, the game is in a much better place on PC and consoles. Give it a try.

In my Lords of the Fallen review, I stated, “Lords of the Fallen (2023) is finally here, despite a challenging development cycle, and it’s a way better game than the original title. Everything that I had issues with the 2014 game has been addressed, and then some. Combat is fun, the world is beautiful, and I can’t get enough of the unique way we can visit the world of the dead using a lamp. It really bugs me that the game on the PC has some slight performance issues that hold it back, and that’s a shame. Still, Lords of the Fallen (2023) is a great Soulslike that fans of the genre need to play, despite a few flaws with the game.”
