Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko) has, unfortunately, failed to make it into consideration for an Oscar award. The anime film was aiming to be nominated for the Best International Feature Film award; however, it did not get selected.
Anime films have a tendency to get passed over at the Oscars to the inability to get nominated comes as no surprise to anyone. Then again, not many anime films get submitted for this award which makes it even more difficult. The last award to do so was Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke back in 1998.
While Makoto Shinkai fans may see this as unfortunate news, it should be noted that your name. (Kimi no Na wa) also did not receive consideration for an Oscar and went on to become the most successful anime film of all time in Japan.
While Weathering With You hasn’t seen the same level of success as your name., it is still making millions hand over fist around the world!
