Destiny 2 Undergoes Pricing Changes Ahead of Free-to-Play Launch

By Diego PerezSeptember 4, 2019
Destiny 2 Forsake - The biggest Destiny 2 expanison yet

Bungie has unveiled some of the changes they’ll be making to Destiny 2‘s DLC offerings before the free-to-play Destiny 2: New Light launches alongside the Shadowkeep expansion on October 1.

The Forsaken Complete Collection, which includes every part of Destiny 2 leading up to Shadowkeep, will see a price reduction from $40 to $25 effective immediately. The complete edition compiles the vanilla Destiny 2 experience, both Year One expansions (Curse of Osiris and Warmind), the big Year Two expansion (Forsaken), and the Forsaken Annual Pass, which includes all of the game’s seasonal content that launched over the past year. Those who already own the Forsaken expansion but opted not to purchase the Annual Pass will receive the Annual Pass for free starting September 17.

Destiny 2

When Destiny 2: New Light launches, the vanilla game and the first two expansions will be completely free-to-play, while access to the Forsaken and Shadowkeep campaigns as well as seasonal content will still be locked behind a paywall. Before these changes, you would have to buy the Forsaken Complete Collection for $40 (which would net you the expansion and the annual pass) and the Shadowkeep Digital Deluxe Edition for $60 to get access to the full Destiny 2 experience over the next year. This pricing adjustment for Forsaken softens the blow of catching up, and the inclusion of a free Annual Pass for people who already own Forsaken should tempt the holdouts who only bought the expansion by itself to jump back in.

Now, if you want to stay up to date with Destiny 2, you’ll have to buy the Forsaken Complete Collection at its new lowered price of $25 and then purchase Shadowkeep and its four season passes for $60. Still a hefty price to pay, but Forsaken offers a wealth of content that is more than worth $25, and it’s safe to assume that Shadowkeep will do the same over the next year, especially with the changes Bungie plans to make to the seasonal model. Shadowkeep‘s season passes technically include even more than Forsaken‘s considering that these season passes now get you access to the premium tiers of the new battle pass system.

Destiny 2: New Light and the Shadowkeep expansion will be released on October 1 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The complete Destiny 2 experience will also hit Google Stadia when it launches in November.
