Minecraft: Story Mode Is Going Away Forever As Of June 25th

Following the closure of Telltale games, we’ve seen several multiple titles created and published by the company being delisted. Now you can add Minecraft: Story Mode to the list, as Mojang reports that as of June 25th, the game will also be removed.

However, the message posted by Mojang’s staff paints a more dire picture. It could be me, but in reading this it feels like Minecraft: Story Mode is being removed and will no longer be available for download. Ever!

Today, we have some important information to share for all players of Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Games Series, Season 1 and 2, on behalf of its publisher. As you might have heard, its publisher is no longer in business, which unfortunately means that Minecraft: Story Mode will no longer be supported. If you have purchased these seasons, please download all remaining episodes prior to the service being discontinued in June. Here’s the full message:

“On behalf of the publisher, Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Games Series, Season 1 and 2 will no longer be supported on June 25th, 2019. If you have purchased these seasons, please download all remaining episodes prior to the service being discontinued in June.”

So if you own either season of Minecraft: Story Mode on Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Android, or iOS, you have until June 25th, 2019 to download the episodes. We’d recommend checking you have all the episodes downloaded!

In a nutshell, it reads that once they pull it from the digital catalogs, it’s going to be gone. Forever. Which is very disconcerting for those who purchased the game digitally. The entire point was being able to download it even after it got pulled. But not, once June 25th rolls around the game is going to be inaccessible. This is exactly why digital gaming naysayers were worried about. Purchasing digital titles and having no control over them.

I really hope we’re reading into this too much but it doesn’t seem that way. So if you own the game or want to, I’d download the entire series while you can.
