The Tribeca Festival has shared its offerings for this year’s games program. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Tribeca Festival, this year is shaping up to be bigger than ever. The lineup includes 12 games and several special events highlighting games and the gaming industry.
As always, Tribeca will host playable demos for these titles for the public to check out. You can go hands-on with the games at Pier 57 in New York City from June 10th to June 14th. Here is a list of the 12 games:
- Milktooth Project
- Demi and the Fractured Dream
- Drifted
- Forever Ago
- Kidbash: Super Legend
- LOFSÖNG
- Rebounder
- Rivage
- ROCKBEASTS
- There are No Ghosts at the Grand
- Truck-Kun Is Supporting Me From Another World?!
- Virtue and a Sledgehammer
This is truly a bigger event than before, and you can contrast it with last year’s list of nine offerings. There’s also a lot of variety here. The developers come from around the world. There’s action adventure, platformer, puzzle, RPG, and more on offer. For indie game fans, we see some beloved publishers presenting titles, including Devolver Digital and Annapurna Interactive.
Tribeca Games has a history of showcasing intriguing indie titles that go on to be hits. Last year, attendees got a sneak peak at Dispatch. The year before they got to go hands-on with Blue Prince. It’s hard to say ahead of time which games will make a major splash. But hey, check them all out. We can give you a little heads up about There are No Ghosts at the Grand. Last fall, we got to preview the musical mystery, which now has a demo available on Steam.
One of these games will take home the prize for the Tribeca Games Award. Casey Baron steps into the role of Senior Programmer for this year’s games program, having worked with the festival since 2022.
“Over the years, the games program has been an early champion of titles that have gone on to critical acclaim and deeply resonate with players,” Baron shared in a press release. “This year’s selections reflect that legacy, showcasing the incredible breadth and ambition of storytelling in games today.”
Tribeca Festival Special Events
Usually, the Tribeca Festival has one major event highlighting a recent or upcoming game. And that’s still the case here. Tribeca will host “Control Resonant: Beyond the Oldest House.” The panel will showcase the upcoming title by Remedy Entertainment. Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen will be joined by filmmaker Nia DaCosta to talk about the upcoming game set in the Control universe. This event will occur on June 12th.
But that won’t be the only major gaming event this year. Rockstar Co-Founder Dan Houser and writing partner Lazlow will talk about games and storytelling in “Luminaries: Dan Houser’s Absurd Ventures” on June 13th. Earlier that day, representatives from the games selected will talk about incorporating audio in “Wordbuilding Through Sound and Design.” And the day before on the 12th, “Bold Choices: The Rise of Maximalist Aesthetics” will discuss bold choices in games and other works.
Last but not least, Tribeca Festival will showcase a special event that’s also a game in its own right. Escape the Internet: Part 2 is part video game and part interactive show as audiences work together to “escape the A.I. apocalypse.” It will play at the AMC 19th St. East on June 4th and 14th.
As someone who regularly attends the Tribeca Festival, I have to say this really does look like one of the best years to go. So the next question is, how can you attend these many events?
To go hands-on with the games, you can RSVP here. Simply select any one of the games and a day to sign up for them all, it’s free. Meanwhile, you may purchase tickets for “Control Resonant: Beyond the Oldest House” here and for Escape the Internet: Part 2 here. The other special events don’t have ticketing pages yet, but you’ll likely need a festival pass for those.
