The King of Fighters XV Set to Receive New Combat Mechanic Called Advance Strike

By Keith MitchellJanuary 26, 2024
The King of the Fighters Advance Strike Mechanic

SNK’s titular fighter, King of Fighter XV, is receiving a new update to encourage players to be more offensive. This new feature, the Advanced Strike Mechanic, will allow players to perform more aggressively by protecting themselves against throws and attacks. The King of Fighters XV Advanced Strike mechanic will be added as a free update for all platforms on January 30, 2024.

The Advance Strike causes a hard knockdown on hit, leaving players well-placed for more offense. This offensive move costs half a power gauge bar, but this is restored on both hit and block. Unlike the counterattack Shatter Strike, the Advance Strike grants a counter hitbox against throws partway through; if it lands while the counter is active, players’ opponents will crumple to the ground (and be prone to follow-ups).

If this sounds familiar, it should be, as several fighting games, including Street Fighter 6‘s Drive Parry and Drive Impact.

You can check out the Advance Strike mechanic in action in this video provided by SNK.

The King of Fighters XV is available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam/Epic Games Store). And if you haven’t already seen it, check out our review of The King of Fighters XV.
