The Outerhaven’s Steam Replay 2022 – How did we do?

By Karl SmartDecember 31, 2022
Steam

While we wait for the results of the 2022 Game of the Year results for The Outerhaven (though my personal list is available now), let’s see if we can drop some hints by looking over some of the results of The Outerhaven’s Steam Replay 2022 lists.

For those of you who do not know what Steam Replay is, it’s much like Sony’s Recap but for the Steam platform on PC (Or Steam Deck if you’re lucky enough to have one). The Steam Replay is easy enough to access, as Steam themselves will attest to with the tweet below:

We've almost made it to the end of the year! Want to see a overview of your time spent on Steam?

Introducing Steam Replay, with your top played games and milestones on Steam this year! All that and more (be sure you're logged in) at: https://t.co/OGT3WkczEM pic.twitter.com/o5eWdaIn1A

Steam Replay gathers information that is shown on each game’s status screen when you go to access it through your library. (Remember, this data is collected as an opt-in that you agree to with no personal data displayed at all.) Steam takes this data and works out things like how many sessions you have played this year, how many games you’ve bought, and other things to create this list that you can share with the world via social media.

But enough stalling, let’s take a look at what The Outerhaven’s Steam Replays look like for 2022.

Keith’s Steam Replay

Steam

Out of everyone at The Outerhaven, there is no one who plays PC games more than our Editor-In-Cheif Keith Mitchell. However, as anyone who has spent enough time on the site would know, Keith loves his Dark Souls-style games, and with Elden Ring launching in 2022, it is not surprising that he has spent the majority of his time playing that title in 2022. The man has clocked up over 100 hours on Elden Ring, and he’ll tell you all about it if you let him. What is surprising though is that Gundam Evolution is his second lowest % of games played in 2022, probably due to the game needing more than one player to be enjoyable and the only other people who would play with him in the game either couldn’t be bothered or didn’t have access till late 2022.

Scott’s Steam Replay

Steam

Scott is next in line. From his Steam Replay, we notice that he is the one who bought the most games out of The Outerhaven staff with 29 games (Beating Keith by 1 game!). Scott seems to love his RPG games with most of that genre taking up a majority of slots in his most played games. Though it’s interesting to see Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate getting a second place as the Musou genre is a bit different to RPGs, it’s the romance of the three kingdoms stuff which is always good to see.

Karl’s Steam Replay

Steam

Yeah, yeah. I’ll admit I’m one of the more mainstream people when it comes to the games I play. It’s not shocking that Resident Evil appears on my list of most played games since Village was a review copy, but Resident Evil 2 Remake was one of those games I bought because there are a lot of mods out there for it and it’s one of the best games ever made… Fight me. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II: Warzone 2.0 was a short stint due to the people I play online games with moving on from this game very quickly, but it was an enjoyable time. However, on the other side, and also a different group of friends, Phasmophobia is a game that we play often for a few hours a week and the game has changed and improved a lot in 2022, well worth a go if you gave up on it when it first came out.

Josh’s Steam Replay

Steam

For a guy who claims he doesn’t play games that often, outside of World of Warcraft, Josh has spent a lot of time playing games on his PC this year. Not surprising is that Mega-Man appears in his list, but also that Mega-Man-like game 30XX appears as his most played game of 2022. When he isn’t talking about 30XX, Josh is letting us know about Vampire Survivor and how he has the game completed to 100% within days of each new update coming out. From this, we can see that Josh is an indie man at heart, not wanting to reward big companies (Especially Capcom) with his head earned dollar.

Summary

So there you have it. Steam Replay 2022 for The Outerhaven shows that each member of the staff has their own games that they enjoy playing. Some prefer hard games where reflexes are king, others play games that’ll make you shit your pants, and others like slow-ass RPGs, or fast-paced action side-scrollers. Many of these games were things we reviewed, or some we played because we wanted to. Not everything has to be brand new for it to be played, with backlog games getting more of a spotlight than anything else.

Over 2022, the staff of The Outerhaven did the following through Steam:

  • Total Achievements: 987
  • Total Sessions: 1233
  • Total New Games: 85
  • Top Games Played: Elden Ring, The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero, Phasmophobia, 30XX

Steam Replay is a great way to look at the gaming habits of the people who write for The Outerhaven, a collective of different people who like different things but all come together for one thing… Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge!

Just kidding. We here at The Outerhaven are here because we love video games and like writing about them for you, so you can join us in that love of gaming.
