Sony and Bandai Namco Invest 10 Billion Yen into Gaudiy

By Josh PiedraMay 9, 2025

Yesterday, it was reported that MyAnimeList had been completely sold to Web3/Blockchain company, Gaudiy. Now, we have learned that Bandai Namco and Sony have jointly invested ¥10 billion ($68,974,500) in the company. The investment is looking to accomplish the following:

  1. Promote initiatives to expand Japanese IP (intellectual property) to the global market and maximize its value, through Sony‘s subsidiary Crunchyroll, Gaudiy’s subsidiary MyAnimeList, and Bandai Namco’s IP-related products and services.
  2. Enrich creation, encourage continuous creation, and nurture next-generation creators of Japanese IP.
  3. Combine the three companies’ data assets to use for creating personalized entertainment experiences.
  4. Build a safe blockchain ecosystem for fans and creators by utilizing Sony‘s public blockchain Soneium, and Gaudiy’s tokenomics design and auction design knowledge.
  5. Create new entertainment experiences with Bandai Namco and Gaudiy’s pushes on the research, development, and application of Generative AI.
