SNK Announces Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves 2025 Championship With $2.5 Million Prize Pool

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be the official tournament game of the 2025 SNK Championship, SNK has announced. The new title will join The King of Fighters XV and Samurai Shodown, but will take the reins as the featured game. The prize pool is a whopping $2,500,000, with $1,500,000 going to the winner of the City of the Wolves tournament. Qualifiers for the tournament will begin following today’s launch.

According to multiple outlets, this is considered the largest prize pool for a single fighting game—even for its very first competitive run. For comparison, Capcom Cup 2025 will award $1 million USD to the winner of the Street Fighter VI tournament, with a total prize pool of $2 million—just shy of SNK’s offering.

Talk about Maximum Mayhem.

The official SNK tournament may be a bit more forgiving than other major events happening beforehand. Evo Japan 2025, taking place in May, is one such event. The Esports World Championship, which begins on July 7th and features qualifiers leading up to its intense conclusion, is another. As of now, official qualifying events for the SNK World Championship have not been announced.

The titles for the SNK World Championship 2025, a global tournament dedicated to SNK fighting games, have been finalized!

City of the Wolves alone will have a total prize pool of $2,500,000; the champion will walk away with $1,500,000!

With the tech already being available months in advance through betas, the competition is about to be stacked for this major. In case there was any doubt, the Evo Showcase featured several matches that demonstrated the tools of City of the Wolves in the hands of content creators and competitors alike—despite only having a few months of experience with the game. Preparation is clearly a must, even though Terry, the official SNK everyman, received a few new tricks in his move list during his recent guest appearances. The same goes for Mai, for that matter. Official rules will also be revealed soon.

We’ve already shared our written and video impressions of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, and the welcome-back SNK has given fans of South Town’s stories—long-awaited for nearly 26 years. Even Capcom wanted to celebrate the return with brand new color variants.
