We are now officially out of the “gaming blitz” that Nintendo had been putting on us with the Switch and Switch 2 since October. They released four major titles only a few weeks apart from one another, which undoubtedly put a strain on gamers (me included), but it was worth it to get so many high-quality games on the systems to end 2025. One of those titles was Kirby Air Riders, the high-octane racing game made by Masahiro Sakurai. Since its launch last month, the game has gotten a few adjustments via patches to help balance things out.
However, over on Twitter, after the latest balance patch dropped, Sakurai himself posted that the balance patches will be wrapped up sooner rather than later, and that the entire team will disband soon:
“As discussed in Air Riders Direct 2, Kirby’s Air Riders does not have a production setup for DLC or anything like that. The team will be disbanding in the near future as well.
Therefore, while we still have a short period of time to make adjustments, we’re aiming for a balance that can be enjoyed without issues even years from now. We might be able to tweak it one more time or so, but after that, please enjoy it as the completed balance!”
That might be shocking to some, but this really is how Sakurai rolls when it comes to game development. Plus, unlike a certain fighting game series, the patches don’t need to be as grand or numerous to help balance things out. He REALLY loves balancing things out.
With his announcement that things will soon wind down for the title, gamers will inevitably start wondering what Sakurai will have planned next on the gaming front…
