We’re now just two days away from the arrival of Pokemon Legends Z-A, and I’m personally very excited for it. I think it’ll be a fun Poke-adventure that’ll differ heavily from past titles, including the one featuring Arceus, which I absolutely adored. While we here at The Outerhaven haven’t gotten the title just yet, others have, and on Metacritic, the review score points to this being a truly fun title that builds off past things, while also having room to improve in the future. At present, the game has a score of 81, which is pretty good!
That’s even more impressive when you recall that Gen 9 had a score of 71 on Metacritic, and that game sold MANY copies on the OG Switch. With a nice bump, this will likely inspire some gamers to try it out and to possibly get a Nintendo Switch 2 for themselves to play the best version of the game. But what are people actually saying about Pokemon Legends Z-A?
First, the most positive of the reviews painted the game as a kind of “love letter to fans,” and praised how the game refined elements from past titles and ensured that certain visual and gameplay bugs wouldn’t happen again. Others noted that its story is deeper than you might expect, and the gameplay loop is one of the best that the series has ever put out! That’s high praise indeed.
Obviously, not everyone had the highest of praises for the title. Some felt there should’ve been even more technical improvements, and not everyone was happy that everything was confined to Lumiose City, even with its “urban redevelopment.” However, no review gave the game a negative score, and many feel that The Pokémon Company could easily build off of this to create an even more memorable experience.
