Dragon Ball Super Anime Returns as Toei Announces Moro Arc Adaptation

By Keith MitchellJanuary 24, 2026

Toei Animation has officially announced a brand-new Dragon Ball Super anime series, bringing the long-awaited Moro Arc to television. Revealed during the 40th Anniversary Dragon Ball live stream, the new project will adapt the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga (but we call it the Moro arc) from the manga for the first time, titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol.

This marks the first continuation of Dragon Ball Super in eight years, ending years of rumors and false alarms about the anime’s return. Fans have long speculated about when the series would resume, and now it is finally happening.

Dragon Ball Super Returns With the Galactic Patrol Anime Arc - Goku and Vegeta

This adaption of the manga is a huge, not just because Dragon Ball Super is finally coming back, but because this arc is widely considered one of the best in the series, given to the lore and power level (I know, I know) as well as added depth to many characters.

One of the biggest changes is the expanded role of the Galactic Patrol. They turn out to be far more than just a backdrop for Jaco’s comic relief. The organization plays a central role in the story, helping to establish the scale of the threat facing the universe.

Goku also takes an important step forward. Instead of simply tapping into Ultra Instinct for short bursts, he begins to understand and control the technique. This arc focuses on refinement and mastery, showing Goku grow in a way that goes beyond just unlocking a stronger form.

Vegeta, meanwhile, continues to get some worthwhile progression of his own. He travels to Yardrat, the same planet where Goku learned Instant Transmission after the Frieza Saga, to train and learn new techniques. These abilities give Vegeta a distinct path forward, rather than just chasing Goku’s latest transformation.

Then there is Moro, one of the most unique villains the series has introduced. Unlike Frieza, Cell, or Buu, Moro is a cosmic level threat who relies heavily on magic and energy absorption rather than brute strength. He drains the life force of entire planets, forcing Goku and Vegeta to rethink how they fight. This arc shifts the focus from pure power to strategy, control, and technique.

The story also introduces Merus, an angel who breaks the rules by directly intervening in mortal affairs. His actions come with serious consequences and help set up major developments for the future of Dragon Ball Super, when it comes to divine characters.

Longtime fans are also rewarded with the return of Uub, the reincarnation of Kid Buu. His involvement helps tie Dragon Ball Super back to the end of Dragon Ball Z in a meaningful way, finally giving that long teased connection real weight. Fans of the Dragon Ball Super will remember that Uub was mentioned by Dende during the Tournament of Power arc. So, we’re finally coming full circle.

If you could not tell, the excitement is real. The manga version of this arc was a standout and significantly changed the direction of Dragon Ball Super. Seeing it fully animated is something fans have been waiting years to experience.

There was also a very touching 40th anniversary video that gave us a look at the very beginning of Dragon Ball, from Goku being sent to Earth, and events that transpired from then. It features some amazing visuals, and even Hans Zimmer got in on the action, composing the music for it.

While do not have a release date yet for Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol Saga, but it is good to finally know that Toei Animation has officially confirmed it is on the way. And if you can’t wait, please go read Dragon Ball Super manga, chapters 42-67, it’s the entire arc, and is definitely worth the read. You can
