If you’ve listened to the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast recently, you’ll know that my cohosts and I full-on blasted the Xbox brand for certain things that they’ve done, including whatever the heck the ROG Ally Xbox S thing is. The Microsoft-fueled gaming brand has been struggling for a while, and everyone knows it…but the company itself won’t admit it out loud. Yet, we’re seeing all sorts of things from the Xbox line that show that they’re slowly burning out, including going multiplatform with numerous exclusives, including putting them on the Nintendo Switch 2, which Phil Spencer says will continue in the future.
In an interview with Famitsu, Phil Spencer was straight up asked by the magazine if Microsoft/Xbox would be “focusing” on the Switch 2 since it’s now out, and here’s what he had to say on the matter:
“Yes. Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 – Standard Edition was released for the Nintendo Switch 2 in July 2025. We are making efforts to lower the barrier to entry for people to play our games through services like Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Game Pass. However, if there are people who want to play our games on the PlayStation 5 or the Nintendo Switch 2, we would love for them to play our games on those platforms. In that regard, we have received excellent support from both Sony Interactive Entertainment and Nintendo.”
While Phil is putting a “flowery tone” on things, it’s clear that the Xbox brand NEEDS the sales however they can, including by getting them on other platforms. The irony on the Switch 2 front isn’t that we believe him that more Xbox-owned franchises will come to the platform, but that we already know of some, and more are likely to follow.
For example, yesterday, Bethesda announced the Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition, and yes, it’ll come to Switch 2. There have also been rumors about Halo coming to the Nintendo system for the first time, and the recent Indiana Jones title will also whip its way onto Nintendo’s system next year. Plus, Call of Duty might show up eventually…
We’ll keep you posted on the reveals when they happen, and how long Xbox can keep being multiplatform solely without becoming simply a game maker.
