Nintendo Releases Curious Pixar-Style Animated Video

What's moving in the background?

Nintendo

When it comes to Nintendo, you truly can never predict what they’re going to do at times. Just when you think you’ve “locked in” on what they’ll reveal, or “what big IP will get a game next,” they do a 180 and make it clear that you only think you know them. For proof of this, I present to you a video that was released by The Big N today, and at first glance, you’re likely not going to understand what’s happening here. In the video below, we get a Pixar-style tale of a young baby interacting with an “invisible entity” that keeps playing with the child’s toys, leading to a fun adventure and a heartwarming moment at the end.

Here’s the video. Watch it and see if you can notice anything “familiar” about the contents:

As many people dissected the video, a common “theme” was noted. Specifically, this has to be a teaser for “something,” and that “something” might very well be a new Pikmin game. Why Pikmin? There’s a key part of the game where the child is looking at the floating toy, and in the background, a “small, red creature” is moving underneath the crib.

Furthermore, in the comments, many pointed out that the animated short’s soundtrack had elements of the Pikmin OST. Someone even went so far as to remind people that the IP’s creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, noted that “Pikmin are all around us,” and that could be the “theme” for the video.”

Only Nintendo knows for sure. So, hopefully, we won’t have to wait for too long on clarification about what the “point” of this video was.
