It is finally here! The last few Neptunia games showed great promise, but they were classified as spin-offs still to the mainline entries. The newest Neptunia is currently titled Hyperdimension Neptunia Unlimited.
New Goddesses?
First thing to realize is that there are a bunch of new Goddesses shown in this trailer. Alongside those new ones are the old ones as well. However, one thing is that the Goddess Candidates don’t seem to be there. So a new generation of Goddesses has hit Leanbox, Lastation, and Lowee. Neptune is still geared to be the main Goddess of Planeptune. For long-time fans of the series, Leanbox getting new Goddesses is a big surprise. Vert’s main personality trait after the first Hyperdimension Neptunia game seemed to always be wanting younger sisters for herself since the other nations all had one but her. She is getting two new Goddesses in Leanbox. Likely to represent the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. The two are Anna and Lot, and they merge to become Eclipse Heart
The next new Goddess on the list is Rouge. She is the new Goddess over Lowee, and she is modeled after the Nintendo Switch. She becomes Red Heart when transformed. She is taking care of Lowee while Blanc is away working on her new gig as an Anime creator since her novel got picked to be animated.
The last new Goddess on the list is Ciel. She seems to be based on the PlayStation 5. She even has an Astrobot-inspired catbot on her arm. Ciel is the new Goddess over Lastation. Noire seems to be hiding out in Lastation and performing heroic duties from the shadows, according to the Neptunia Unlimited website.
Future Of Neptunia
As we guessed in our Neptunia article about the future of the series, the combat systems from Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters and Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution are going to be utilized in this upcoming title. It has innovations past that, though, with the introduction of aerial combat. When your character transforms into a Goddess, she can fly. She can then attack flying enemies much more easily and attack from the sky. This makes sense, as in the other games, Goddess transformations let them fly during cutscenes and story moments.
Another thing we surmised from that article is that the game series would move further and further away from the lewd, fanservicey roots of the game and lean more and more into comedy and characters. Blanc, Vert, and Noire have redesigns that show off less skin than their previous versions. The character with the least change in this game seems to be Neptune.
I am personally excited about this game and what it can reveal about the future of the series. The Japanese release of the game is slated for August 27th, 2026. We have no details currently on an english version or when it will be released outside of Japan. Hyperdimension Neptunia Unlimited is going to be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
