Who would you rather fight, one kaiju-sized Michael Myers or 254 regular-sized Michael Myers? This past weekend, one of these entities manifested. At PAX East, Halloween broke the Guinness World Record for the “largest gathering of people dressed as Michael Myers.” The gathering came about after a panel celebrating the upcoming asymmetrical stealth horror game based on the classic film.
Halloween, developed by IllFonic and co-published by IllFonic and Gun Interactive, alongside partners Compass International Pictures and Further Front, took a few stabs into the PAX East scene. Aside from the panel and gathering, the game also shared its first-ever playable demo. The show-exclusive demo let players step into the shoes of either the masked menace or one of his potential victims.
And while 254 Michael Myers cosplayers set the record, thankfully the game just pits a single Michael Myers against four Civilian players. Inspired by John Carpenter’s 1978 film, the demo showed off a map set in Haddonfield Heights, the neighborhood of the fictional Illinois town of the movie. To set it aside from other asymmetrical horror titles, Halloween doesn’t just pit players against each other. It also involves various NPCs who may get recruited by Civilians or taken out by the Boogeyman himself.
The Saturday panel explored how the developers of Halloween the game and the creators of Halloween the film collaborated to build an authentic interactive world. John Carpenter himself joined virtually. Meanwhile, Ryan Freimann of Campass International Pictures and Jared Gerritzen and Jordan Mathewson of IllFonic appeared live at the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center.
After the panel, Michael Myers, or the 254 attendees dressed like him, poured into the streets of Boston for chaos and carnage a tribute to the horror film series. That’s a lot of jumpsuits, prop knives, and worn-down masks of William Shatner.
Halloween is the latest asymmetrical stealth horror game developed by IllFonic. The developer and publisher previously made Predator: Hunting Grounds and Friday the 13th: The Game. While the latter received mixed reviews, I personally found it a blast to play with friends. Sadly, It’s no longer available for purchase due to licensing issues. So Halloween should come as a nice salve for fans of multiplayer horror games based on slasher films.
Halloween arrives on September 8th, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
