Going into the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, we all knew that Mario Kart World would be a big hit, as it was going to be a launch title, and the game would be part of a special bundle that we all knew would sell out quickly. I speak from experience, because I wasn’t expecting to get that bundle on day one, but I did. Thanks, Walmart! Since then, it’s been fun to see the sales of the racing title (read my review here) alongside the console it came with. Today, the latest financial briefing revealed once again just how close these two are in numbers.
In the latest briefing, it was revealed that Mario Kart World is at 9.57 million units sold in just under four months. For context, the Nintendo Switch 2 is at 10.36 million units sold. So, yeah, it’s basically a 1-to-1 ratio of console owners to game owners. Again, part of this is because of the bundle. However, not every console unit has been a bundle, and thus, people have gotten the game on their own, further proving the game’s success.
The first-party titles for the Switch 2 have done really well since the system’s launch, with Donkey Kong Bananza basically being at 3.5 million sold, and Pokemon Legends Z-A being evenly split between the OG Switch and Switch 2, and is likely over 6 million in around two weeks.
As such, it’s fair to say that the system is doing well, and it’s about to get another exclusive this week! Great times for Nintendo, everybody!
