Twin Star Exorcists is an ongoing serialized manga that has finally landed in the hands of English readers. When I read the description of the series, I knew I had to give it a try. This story follows the life of a 14 year old boy, Rokuro, who is fated to be an exorcist. Unfortunately, he went through some pretty tragic events and lost his interest in exorcism. He attempts other career paths but he simply sucks at everything except being an exorcist. One day, a cute girl named Benio falls from the sky and Rokuro finds himself launched into his old life. He is paired with Benio and forms a team called the “Twin Star Exorcists.”

Volume 3 delves deeper into Rokuro’s past and ultimately reveals how his life is entwined with Benio’s on levels even he couldn’t imagine. She also learns why Rokuro didn’t want to be an exorcist anymore. Now that the secret is out, a weight is lifted from his shoulders and he can resume being an exorcist without guilt. He really is a great exorcist, too!

Final Word:

This series is great and I am so happy I had the opportunity to get into it, even if it meant going back two volumes to catch up and prepare for volume 3. The artwork is a little basic and the cover of volume 3 is certainly not the most attractive; however, the story is fascinating. The author draws elements of the plot from Japanese lore and provides information about Japanese mythology every few chapters.  Definitely consider reading this series if you aren’t already.
