Manga Review: MY HERO ACADEMIA Volume 3

Author: Kohei Horikoshi
Publisher: Viz Media
Language: English
Format: Paperback
Page count: 192
Genre: Shonen
Publication Date:
February 2, 2015

Volume 3 has more villains to defeat and a gang of them have a sinister plan. They have targeted All Might and discovered that he is losing his use of his quirk. He does his best to fight back but with time running short, the most he can do is create a diversion and pretend he is still strong. Our famed superhero is under attack and it’s up to Midoriya and his equally less experienced peers to save All Might while he buys more time to win the battle. Can Midoriya help protect All Might’s reputation?

Final Word:

I have a love-hate relationship with My Hero Academia. Midoriya is a character that I feel I have seen before. There is no attachment to him and I never find myself rooting for him. He is one-dimensional and blends in against the other characters a bit more than he should. After all, we’re supposed to be following him and cheering him on. I find All Might far more interesting; however, that is only because his true form reminds me of a heroine addict. I’m not too sure if I want to continue following this series. The next volume really needs to pick up and show some serious character development or I may just have to close the book on this one. Volume 3 took a few sittings for me to finally get through.
