Lies of P DLC and upcoming gameplay balances confirmed

During the Lies of P director’s letter video that was released on October 31, 2023, the director of the game, Ji Won Choi, revealed several changes coming to the game.

He’s listened to the fans and has revealed that several changes are coming to the game, though I’m sure people will say that the game is being nerfed. For starters, the Rising Dodge ability will be added as a default since, instead of requiring players to unlock it from the P-organ. That’s a really good change, as the default dodge isn’t very good in the first place. Polendia, the robotic butler at Hotel Krat, will sell two additional Quartz from his shop at the beginning of the game. This is yet another good chance, as some players did complain about missing Quartz during their playthroughs.

Another popular request was to add the costume for Alidoro, who provides players with the boss weapons in the game. I really liked this hound mask and was a bit frustrated when we couldn’t get access to it. Well, that’s all going to change as the Alidoro costume and mask will be available this November 2023. Choi states this is a token of gratitude, but it wasn’t stated exactly how we’ll get this in-game.

As part of an upcoming cosmetic change, there will be an extra slot added to allow players to wear both the glasses and hats at the same time. Along with this will come several new cosmetics in the form of the Alchemist’s Hat and a new pair of glasses, which will also be a token of gratitude to players.

Towards the end of the video, Choi started talking about future plans for Lies of P. First up is confirmation that there will be a soundtrack for the game that will include more than 60 tracks, which will encompass nearly all of the music from Lies of P. There was no word on whether this will be a physical or digital soundtrack. More to come on that at a later date.

But perhaps the biggest news is that we have confirmation that DLC for Lies of P is in development, and the developer is hiring to bring on more people to help with this. Choi has been reading and watching speculations on DLC for the game, and he loves it. As he states, “The anticipation is truly exhilarating.” He follows up by saying that he wishes he could share what the DLC is about, but he’d get in trouble with his fellow developers if he did. However, he did share a few sketches from the upcoming DLC.

The first image shows what appears to be a location where pipes have frozen over, with some tanks in the distance. It looks like an old-school data center or facility, but this definitely looks like we’ll be heading to the Arctic. Perhaps for Frankenstein? The next image shows P on a ship that has collided with another ship and can be traversed into. It looks like the ship P is on could be a Galleon, and if so, this could be something for Peter Pan / Neverland.

He teases that what he just showed “scratches merely the tip of the iceberg” and that “A lot awaits to unfold in the DLC.” Let our imaginations go wild” is what he wants us to do. And judging from the reception of Lies of P, we’ve all been doing that since the credits rolled. That ending scene has me so ready.

In closing, Choi is extremely proud of what the studio has done with Lies of P, and I’m right there with him. Lies of P has been my favorite Soulslike of 2023, and there has been some stiff competition, that’s for sure. I can’t wait to see what this new DLC brings us whenever it gets released, that is.

Lies of P is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. I’ve already beaten the game several times, and I can’t wait to see what the upcoming updates will do to an already fantastic game. If you haven’t played the game yet (why not?), give our Lies of P review a read, and see why I can’t stop geeking out over this game.
