What is Killer Instinct?

The original Killer Instinct game was a 2D SNES / Arcade / N64 fighter created by Rare and Midway in 1994. The origin of the legendary phrase “c-c-c-combo-breaker” can be traced back to this game. Maximilian Dood, the definitive voice for Fighting Games, uses the combo breaker sound effect in his streams. In 2013, the remake became an Xbox exclusive, and it went to Steam in 2017. Known for its high hit count combo strings, and finishing moves, Killer Instinct has been on the list with many top fighting games of all time. It introduced high combo counts as a one-on-one fighting game without having to rely on infinites heavily to achieve it.

The remake’s roster includes classic characters from the series and new, original combatants in order to flesh out the lore. A few new faces came from Xbox and Rare IPs, such as Battletoads, Gears of War, and Halo. Orchid, Jago, Fulgore, Saberwulf, and Tusk are a few that represent the old guard. While newcomers Hisako, Aria, and Sadira were created for the remake. Newer characters introduce several playstyles to adhere to a higher complexity through setups and additional assists.

The stream will happen on Wednesday, November 22, at 1 PM PST / 4 PM EST.

Killer Instinct is still available on Xbox Series S / X and P. (Steam).
