There are certain video games that resonate with us on such a level that we can’t help but want to celebrate them, as well as play them whenever we can. For me, one of those games is Fire Emblem Path of Radiance. I’ve talked about it many times on the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, and how it is the reason that I claim Ike, the main character, is the greatest video game character ever. Just as important, though, is that this was my introduction to the entire franchise, and I was hooked pretty much instantly.
So, imagine my surprise and joy when I found out that today is the 20th anniversary of the game.

The importance of Fire Emblem Path of Radiance can’t be understated. First, it was one of the first console titles for the franchise, and made use of the GameCube’s graphics to do quite a bit for the period. Second, Ike was so iconic in it and the sequel, Radiant Dawn, that he has been in Super Smash Bros for multiple entries. Third, I would argue it has one of the best stories in the franchise and some of the best characters. Finally, people still talk about it today, and as Stealth correctly noted, it’s been teased for Nintendo Switch Online since they announced the GameCube expansion, and many hope it gets added soon, including me.
Also, as I’ve mentioned on NEP, I think this and Radiant Dawn would be perfect for a remake combo. Then again, I also want remakes of the games that haven’t been localized yet, so I’m flexible.
It also should be noted that this may be the only content from the franchise we get to enjoy on Nintendo Switch 2 until Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave arrives next year.
