SNK dropped the pricing information for the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 2 DLC for six characters yesterday. Along with Jae Hoon’s arrival to the game, there was a new version of the game revealed dubbed Legend Edition.
The Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 2 Legend Edition comes with Season 1 and the Base Game. Season 2 is priced at $19.99 USD separately, while the Legend Edition is $49.99 USD with Season 2 in tow. It’s as though the game has seemed to keep the price nearly the same as it did at launch for the new edition. A new trailer was released to commemorate the Season 2 launch.
Honestly, I would have called it Real Bout Fatal Fury City of the Wolves: Bosses Den at this point.
Legacy fighters Kim Jae Hoon, Blue Mary, Geese Howard, Wolfgang Krauser, and two more mystery characters will be coming to City of the Wolves. The two mystery character move slightly goes against what was said about hidden DLC choices last summer.
Compared to other fighting games now, the breakdown may be stating that there will be at least two times the amount of DLCs per year if Season 3 launches in 2026. Street Fighter VI is sticking to 4 characters per DLC run with a few new stages. Tekken 8 has a similar feel with 4 characters and at least one being new. Miary Zho, Armor King, and Anna Williams, were released for Season 2.
Pricing wise, the strategy to produce content for the game and still sell lower to attract newcomers to the franchise that started The King of Fighters. Competitively, this nearly half of the typical DLCs by at least half. The way it works out is around $3 per character.
The franchise on its own has been dormant for about 25 years. Familiarity through a more aggressive push to release characters might be what could get City of the Wolves those new fans. Especially if City of The Wolves is meant to bring every member of Fatal Fury back to the ring within its’ potential fighting game shelf life.
