The Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is Up for Preorder

By Andrew AgressJanuary 7, 2026

Back in 2003, Tecmo released Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly. The survival horror sequel saw players navigating a ghost-filled village as sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura. Critics praised the title, and it’s widely considered a high point in the series. And if you missed it the first go-round or want to see it under a new lens, Koei Tecmo will have a remake of the game arriving in March.

You can now preorder Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, which updates the original title. The game retains the Camera Obscura of the original, a series staple that involves snapping photos of spooky spirits. Otherwise, the game has undergone a complete overhaul. The developers have improved the visuals, audio, gameplay, and controls. The remake also adds a new “Holding Hands with Mayu” mechanic, which allows for literal hand-holding as the sisters traverse the creepy village.
