Fable Gets A Release Window And Gameplay Reveal At Xbox Developer_Direct 2026

Fable Key Art From 2026 Dev Direct

If you’re like me, you’ve been waiting years for the return of Fable, this time developed by Playground Games, the developers behind the beloved Forza Horizon series. Today, we finally got our first look at gameplay, and let me tell you…Playground’s first-ever open-world action RPG is looking extremely promising so far.

With a vast and varied world, combat that looks like a mix between Witcher and Dragon Age, but with less slowdown and much more. Fable seems like it might actually deliver on what we’ve all been hoping for.

Just like the previous games in the franchise, Playground Games’ Fable will focus heavily on morality with lots of choices to make and villagers to annoy, marry and of course, chickens to kick. They also showed off character customization, which is sure to make some people very happy, and yes, you can wear a giant chicken suit.

If you want to learn even more about Fable, I’d recommend heading over to the Xbox Wire, where Fable GM and Game Director, Ralph Fulton, answers some of the biggest questions you might have.

Most importantly, they revealed that the game is scheduled for release on Xbox, PC, and PS5 in Autumn 2026.

Jordan has been playing games since the age of six. This ignited a passion which initially led him towards game development before trying his hand in the realm of games media, starting in 2022. It turns out he's quite good at it, even if he doesn't always believe in himself. Now, just a few short years later, not only is Jordan a valued member of our staff here at The Outerhaven, but he also co-owns and helps to run Analog Stick Gaming.
